On September 17, 2024, as part of the 22nd Founding Anniversary celebrations of Kolehiyo ng Subic, two significant seminars were conducted at the Kolehiyo ng Subic Campus. These events were attended by 150 National Service Training Program (NSTP) students who gathered to gain insights on critical social issues affecting their community. The first seminar, titled “The Importance of Preventing Drug Abuse Among College Students and the Community,” featured Agent Jigger B. Juniller, MPA, CSP, the Zambales Provincial Chief and Head of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). Agent Juniller shared his extensive experience in combating drug-related problems in the province, emphasizing the vital role of youth and community members in the prevention of substance abuse. He discussed the latest trends in drug use, the dangers associated with illicit drugs, and the legal repercussions for those involved in such activities. His engaging presentation highlighted the need for vigilance, education, and collective action to create a drug-free environment, not just within the college but throughout the entire community. Following this, the second seminar, “Mental Health Awareness,” was conducted by Mr. Justine Carlos Gimena, RPM, from the Human Resource Office of the Local Government Unit of Subic, Zambales. Mr. Gimena focused on the importance of mental well-being, especially among students who often face academic pressure and personal challenges. He covered various aspects of mental health, including recognizing signs of stress, anxiety, and depression, and provided practical advice on seeking help and fostering a supportive environment. His talk aimed to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and encouraged students to prioritize their mental well-being. These seminars served as an eye-opening experience for the students, equipping them with knowledge and awareness on two crucial topics that have a profound impact on their lives and the community.
